Indications
Yamadin is indicated for:
- Gastric ulcer
- Duodenal ulcer
- Anastomotic ulcer
- Acute stress ulcer
- Reflux esophagitis
- Zollinger-Ellison syndrome
- Acute gastritis and chronic gastritis in the acute exacerbation stage.
Pharmacology
Famotidine, a histamine H2-receptor antagonist, fully inhibits histamine’s action on parietal cell H2-receptors. It reduces basal, overnight, and pentagastrin-stimulated gastric acid secretion. Famotidine’s H2-receptor antagonist effects are slowly reversible, dissociating slowly from the receptor.
Dosage & Administration
- Tablet: For adults with gastric or duodenal ulcers, reflux esophagitis, or Zollinger-Ellison syndrome, the usual dose is Famotidine 20 mg twice daily (after breakfast and supper or before bedtime), or Famotidine 40 mg once daily at bedtime.
- For acute gastritis and chronic gastritis exacerbation: Adults typically take Famotidine 20 mg twice daily (after meals or before bed) or Famotidine 40 mg once daily (before bed), with dosage adjustments based on age and symptoms. Most ulcer patients heal within 4-8 weeks, and maintenance therapy is usually Famotidine 20 mg once daily, as prescribed by a physician.
- Powder for Suspension: For pediatric patients with GERD, dosages vary by age, ranging from 0.5 mg/kg once daily to 1 mg/kg divided twice daily, up to maximum doses depending on specific conditions like duodenal ulcer, peptic ulcer, reflux esophagitis, or Zollinger-Ellison syndrome.
