Description
Indications
- Xynovir is indicated in combination with other antiretroviral agents for the treatment of HIV-1 infection in adults.
- It is also used for managing chronic hepatitis B in adult patients.
Use Xynovir as directed by a registered healthcare provider.
Pharmacology
- Mechanism of Action: Xynovir contains Tenofovir, which inhibits the activity of HIV reverse transcriptase by competing with deoxyadenosine 5-triphosphate. As an analog of naturally occurring deoxynucleotides, Tenofovir integrates into the viral DNA chain, preventing its synthesis.
- Pharmacokinetics: Tenofovir is a water-soluble prodrug with approximately 25% oral bioavailability. After administration, peak serum concentrations are typically reached in 1-2 hours. Tenofovir binds minimally to plasma proteins, and its half-life is about 17 hours. The drug is eliminated through a combination of glomerular filtration and active tubular secretion.
Dosage & Administration
- For HIV-1 or Chronic Hepatitis B Treatment:
- Adults: Take 1 tablet of 245 mg Tenofovir once daily, orally, without regard to food.
- Pediatric Patients (12 years or older, ≥35 kg): 1 tablet of 245 mg once daily, orally.
- Adjustments may be required for patients with renal impairments.
Consult your healthcare provider for personalized dosing instructions.
