Tuspel is formulated to address:

Composition
Each 5 ml dose of syrup contains:
- Guaifenesin BP 200 mg
- Dextromethorphan Hydrobromide BP 15 mg
- Menthol USP 15 mg
Pharmacology
- Guaifenesin acts as an expectorant, loosening chest and throat congestion for easier expulsion.
- Dextromethorphan Hydrobromide functions as a cough suppressant, modulating the brain signals that trigger coughing.
- Menthol provides relief with its local anesthetic and counterirritant properties, soothing throat irritation.
Dosage & Administration
- Adults (12 years and older): 2 teaspoonfuls (10 ml) every 6 hours. Maximum: 8 teaspoonfuls (40 ml) per day.
- Pediatric Use: Not recommended for children under 12 years.
Interactions
Possible interactions may occur with acetaminophen, hydrocodone, diphenhydramine, escitalopram, codeine, alprazolam, and ondansetron.
Contraindications
Avoid use if currently taking monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) or within two weeks of stopping MAOIs. Consult a healthcare provider if unsure about MAOI content in your medication.
Side Effects
Possible side effects include dizziness, drowsiness, gastrointestinal disturbances, and feelings of nervousness, restlessness, or irritability.

Overdose Effects
- Guaifenesin: Low toxicity; treatment should focus on reducing absorption and gastric emptying.
- Dextromethorphan Hydrobromide: High doses may cause excitement, confusion, or respiratory depression. Cases of toxic psychosis have been reported.
- Menthol: Overdose can cause abdominal pain, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, dizziness, and rapid breathing.
