Indications
Travast Eye Drops are specifically formulated to lower elevated intraocular pressure in patients suffering from open-angle glaucoma or ocular hypertension, especially for those who do not tolerate or respond adequately to other intraocular pressure-reducing medications. They can be used as a standalone treatment or in conjunction with other therapies.
- Consult a registered physician before using this medication.
Description
Opsonin Pharma proudly introduces Bangladesh’s first preservative-free sterile eye drop formulation utilizing an Ophthalmic Squeeze Dispenser (OSD). This innovative delivery system ensures optimal application and efficacy.
Pharmacology
Travoprost is a synthetic analogue of prostaglandin F2 alpha, existing as an isopropyl ester prodrug. It is swiftly converted by corneal esterases into its active free acid form. The travoprost free acid is a potent and selective agonist for the FP prostanoid receptor. It effectively lowers intraocular pressure by enhancing the drainage of aqueous humor, primarily through increased uveoscleral outflow and, to a lesser degree, through improved trabecular outflow.
Dosage & Administration
For Adults: The recommended dosage is one drop of Travoprost applied to the conjunctival sac of the affected eye(s) once daily in the evening. If multiple topical ophthalmic products are being used, allow at least 5 minutes between applications. When transitioning from another ophthalmic antiglaucoma agent to Travoprost, discontinue the previous medication and begin Travoprost the following day.
For Pediatric Patients: The safety and efficacy of Travoprost eye drops have not been established for individuals under 18 years of age.
- Consult a registered physician before using this medication.
Interactions
Using NSAIDs concurrently may reduce the therapeutic effect of Travoprost.
Contraindications
Travoprost eye drops should not be used by individuals who are hypersensitive to travoprost or any of the formulation’s excipients.
Side Effects
The most commonly reported side effect associated with Travoprost is ocular hyperemia.
Pregnancy & Lactation
There is a lack of adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women. Travoprost should only be used during pregnancy if the potential benefits outweigh the risks to the fetus. It is unclear whether the drug or its metabolites are excreted in human milk. Caution is advised when administering Travoprost to nursing mothers.
Precautions & Warnings
Caution is advised for patients with active intraocular inflammation (iritis/uveitis). Travast should not be used while wearing contact lenses; lenses should be removed before administration and can be reinserted 15 minutes post-application.
Therapeutic Class
Drugs for miotics and glaucoma
