Indications
This medication is indicated for the topical treatment of inflamed dermatoses where there is a concurrent infection by susceptible organisms. Conditions such as intertrigo and infected eczema can benefit from its application. It is effective for both moist and dry forms of eczema or dermatitis, including atopic eczema, primary irritant or contact allergic eczema, and seborrheic eczema, especially those associated with acne. The formulation is also suitable for intertriginous eczema, including inflammatory intertrigo, as well as perianal and genital dermatitis. Miconazole targets dermatophytes and pathogenic yeasts (e.g., Candida spp.), and is also effective against many Gram-positive bacteria, including various strains of Streptococcus and Staphylococcus.
Use this medication as directed by a registered healthcare professional.
Pharmacology
Miconazole is a substituted imidazole belonging to the azole family, effective in treating superficial candidiasis, dermatophytosis, pityriasis versicolor, acanthamoeba infections, and seborrheic dermatitis. It also exhibits activity against Aspergillus spp., Cryptococcus neoformans, Pseudallescheria boydii, and some Gram-positive bacteria, including Staphylococci and Streptococci.
Hydrocortisone is a naturally occurring glucocorticoid that is now synthesized for medical use. It plays a critical role in addressing skin injuries, particularly inflammation, and possesses antipruritic, antimycotic, and vasoconstrictive properties.
Miconazole acts as an imidazole antifungal agent, disrupting ergosterol synthesis, which alters the permeability of the cell membranes of sensitive fungi, leading to their destruction. When applied to the skin, hydrocortisone penetrates skin cells, inhibiting the release of inflammatory chemicals, thereby reducing inflammation.
Dosage & Administration
Apply a thin film of the cream to the affected area two to four times daily for a duration of 1 to 2 weeks. Ensure thorough application until the cream is completely absorbed into the skin. Treatment should continue for at least one week following the resolution of all signs and symptoms. This dosage is applicable for both adults and children.
Use this medication as directed by a registered healthcare professional.
