Timozin

Indications

Timozin is an effective antispasmodic used to alleviate muscle spasms in various organs including the intestine, biliary system, bladder, and uterus. It is prescribed for the symptomatic relief of pain associated with digestive tract and biliary system disorders. Additionally, Timozin is beneficial for treating spasms and pain linked to urological and gynecological conditions.

Pharmacology

Tiemonium Methylsulphate works by acting as a competitive antagonist of acetylcholine and histamine. It enhances the binding of calcium to phospholipids and proteins in cell membranes, thus inhibiting the intracellular contractile proteins in visceral cells. This action effectively reduces visceral spasms and alleviates associated pain.

Dosage & Administration

• Tablet/Syrup:
  • Adults: Take 2-6 tablets or 3-9 teaspoonfuls of syrup daily, divided into multiple doses.
  • Children: Administer 3 ml/kg body weight or 6 mg/kg body weight per day in divided doses.
• Injection: 1 injection 3 times daily, administered slowly via the intravenous route or intramuscular route.
• Suppository: 20 mg suppository, two to three times daily, administered rectally.

Contraindications

Timozin should not be used in patients with urethroprostatic disorders that may lead to urinary retention. It is also contraindicated in individuals at risk of angle-closure glaucoma.

While rare, Timozin Methylsulphate may cause hypotension (low blood pressure) and tachycardia (rapid heartbeat) in some individuals.

Pregnancy & Lactation

Animal studies on Tiemonium Methylsulphate did not show any teratogenic (birth defect) effects. Although no issues have been reported with normal use during breastfeeding, it is advised that nursing mothers use this medication with caution in the absence of sufficient data.

Precautions & Warnings

Exercise caution when using Timozin in patients with prostate disorders, chronic bronchitis, coronary insufficiency, hyperthermia, or renal and hepatic insufficiency. Visual disturbances may occur, so it is important to avoid driving or operating machinery.

Use in Special Populations

• Pediatric Use: Safety and efficacy in children have not been established for Timozin Methylsulphate.
• Geriatric Use: The safety and effectiveness of Timozin remain consistent with advancing age.

Overdose Effects

There is limited data on the effects of overdose with Timozin Methylsulphate. If overdose occurs, seek medical attention immediately.
