Indications
Spusoft is a mucolytic medication primarily used to treat both acute and chronic respiratory conditions. It is also effective in alleviating symptoms associated with intermittent episodes of chronic bronchitis.
Always use Spusoft as prescribed by a licensed healthcare professional.
Pharmacology
Erdosteine, the active ingredient in Spusoft, acts as a prodrug that is converted into N-thiodiglycolyl-homocysteine. This process generates free thiol groups that help break the disulfide bonds in bronchial mucoproteins. As a result, it reduces the viscosity of mucus and purulent sputum, improving the clearance of respiratory secretions. Additionally, Erdosteine has antioxidant properties, counteracting free radical formation, inhibiting elastase enzyme activity, and preventing bacterial adhesion to respiratory epithelial cells.
Dosage & Administration
For adults and elderly patients over 18 years, the recommended dose is 1 capsule twice daily for a period of 10 days. In chronic conditions, Erdosteine may be administered for up to 12 months or as advised by your healthcare provider. Spusoft capsules can be taken with or without food.
Please follow the prescribed dosage as directed by your healthcare professional.
Contraindications
Spusoft is not recommended for individuals who have a known hypersensitivity to Erdosteine. It is also contraindicated in patients with a creatinine clearance (CrCl) of less than 25 ml/min or those with severe liver dysfunction.
Side Effects
Common side effects may include epigastric discomfort. Other potential side effects are headaches, cold symptoms, taste disturbances, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, angioedema, and various skin allergic reactions.
Pregnancy & Lactation
The use of Erdosteine during pregnancy and breastfeeding is not recommended unless deemed absolutely necessary by a healthcare provider.
Precautions & Warnings
Caution is advised when using Spusoft in cases of mild liver dysfunction. The daily dosage should not exceed 300 mg in such instances.
