Spotclen Cream

Indications

Spotclen is used for:

• The gradual lightening of hyperpigmented skin conditions, including chloasma, melasma, freckles, senile lentigines, and other areas of excessive melanin production.
• Alleviating hyperpigmentation due to photosensitization linked with inflammation or certain cosmetic products.

Pharmacology

Hydroquinone is a topical agent designed for skin depigmentation. It works by inhibiting the enzymatic conversion of tyrosine to 3,4-dihydroxyphenylalanine, effectively suppressing melanocyte activity and leading to reversible skin lightening.

Dosage & Administration

Apply a thin layer of Hydroquinone Cream to the affected areas once daily, ideally 30 minutes before bedtime. Start by gently cleansing the face and neck with a mild cleanser, then rinse and pat the skin dry. Apply the cream directly to hyperpigmented regions, extending about ½ inch into the surrounding normal skin. Rub in gently and evenly.

Treatment should be stopped once desired results are achieved. During the day, apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen with SPF 30 and wear protective clothing. Limit sun exposure. Patients can use moisturizers and/or makeup during the day. Hydroquinone Cream is for external use only and should not be ingested or applied to the eyes or vaginal area.

Contraindications

Hydroquinone should not be used by individuals with a history of hypersensitivity or allergic reactions to hydroquinone or any other ingredients in the formulation.

Side Effects

No significant systemic side effects have been reported. However, localized hypersensitivity, such as contact dermatitis, may occur. In such cases, discontinue use.

Pregnancy & Lactation

Pregnancy Category C: Animal studies have shown adverse fetal effects, and controlled studies in humans are lacking. Use this medication only if the potential benefits outweigh the risks to the fetus.

Lactation: It is unclear if topical hydroquinone is absorbed or passes into breast milk. Caution is recommended for nursing mothers.

Precautions & Warnings

Spotclen is a skin-lightening agent that can lead to unwanted cosmetic outcomes if not used correctly. Physicians should familiarize themselves with this information prior to prescribing or dispensing the product.

Conduct a skin sensitivity test by applying a small amount to an unbroken area and observe for 24 hours. Minor redness is not a contraindication, but if itching, blistering, or excessive inflammation occurs, further use should be avoided. If no lightening effect is observed after two months, discontinue treatment.

Avoid contact with eyes and lips, and do not apply to broken or damaged skin.

Overdose Effects

There have been no reported systemic reactions from topical use of Spotclen. Some users may experience transient skin redness and mild burning, which do not necessitate discontinuation of treatment.
