Pharmacology
Fluocinolone Acetonide is a synthetic corticosteroid that works by reducing skin inflammation and alleviating itching. It is a potent derivative of hydrocortisone and is widely used in dermatology for various skin conditions. Studies have shown that Fluocinolone Acetonide significantly enhances the chondrogenesis of bone marrow stem cells, promoting collagen production more effectively than dexamethasone.
Neomycin Sulfate, an antibiotic, is absorbed by bacterial cells, where it binds to ribosomal subunits, inhibiting protein synthesis and preventing bacterial growth. This action helps to control secondary bacterial infections that may occur alongside inflammatory skin conditions.
Dosage & Administration
Apply a small amount of Skinalar-N Cream or Ointment to the affected area 2-3 times a day. Gently massage the cream or ointment into the skin for effective absorption. This dosage is suitable for both adults and children, including the elderly.
Always follow the dosage instructions provided by your healthcare provider.
Contraindications
Skinalar-N should not be used in the following cases:
- Primary skin infections, rosacea, acne, perioral dermatitis, anogenital pruritus, or napkin eruptions.
- Known hypersensitivity to neomycin or any of its components.
Side Effects
Side effects are rare, but, like all topical corticosteroids, there may be a risk of hypersensitivity reactions. Always monitor for any signs of irritation or allergic response.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Topical use of corticosteroids during pregnancy may pose a risk to the developing fetus, including cleft palate and growth retardation. While the risk is low, corticosteroid treatment should be used with caution during pregnancy, especially in the first trimester. Always consult your doctor to minimize risks.
It is unknown whether Skinalar-N is excreted in breast milk, so it should be used cautiously during lactation.
Precautions & Warnings
- Avoid use in the presence of viral or fungal infections without appropriate anti-infective treatment.
- Prolonged use of Skinalar-N should be avoided, particularly in conditions where neomycin absorption is possible.
- Do not apply to the external auditory canal in patients with a perforated eardrum.
- Long-term use of topical steroids can lead to skin thinning or atrophy. Avoid prolonged use on the face or large body areas.
