Indications

Silybin, extracted from Milk Thistle, serves a diverse array of purposes:

• Management and prevention of liver diseases, whether alcoholic or non-alcoholic.

Composition

Every capsule contains a standardized Milk Thistle extract:

• 175 mg of Milk Thistle, equivalent to 140 mg of Silymarin.
• 87.50 mg of Milk Thistle, equivalent to 70 mg of Silymarin.

Pharmacology

Silymarin, renowned for its hepatoprotective properties, is derived from the fruits of Milk Thistle. It facilitates RNA polymerase-A activation, fosters protein synthesis, and promotes liver cell regeneration and repair.

The liver benefits from Silymarin’s antioxidant prowess, which surpasses that of vitamin E by tenfold. By stabilizing liver cell membranes, it prevents the infiltration of harmful substances.

Furthermore, Silymarin exhibits membrane-stabilizing effects, fortifying liver cell structures to impede toxin entry. It shields hepatocytes from damage caused by various factors, including alcohol, organic compounds, viral infections, medications like acetaminophen, environmental pollutants, and metabolic by-products.

Silymarin boasts anti-lipid peroxidative, antifibrotic, anti-inflammatory, membrane-stabilizing, immunomodulatory, and liver-regenerating properties.

Dosage & Administration

For adults, the recommended dosage is 1 to 3 capsules, taken 2 to 3 times daily, or as per a physician’s guidance until symptom relief.

Children should only consume this medication under the supervision of a physician.

Interactions

Combining Silybin with butyrophenones or phenothiazines has been associated with reduced lipid peroxidation.

Contraindications

This medication is contraindicated in individuals with known hypersensitivity to silymarin.
