Indications

Seasonix is indicated for the relief of symptoms associated with various allergic conditions, including:

• Perennial allergic rhinitis
• Seasonal allergic rhinitis
• Chronic idiopathic urticaria

Pharmacology

Seasonix contains Levocetirizine Dihydrochloride, the active (levo) isomer of cetirizine. This advanced antihistamine is highly effective and well-tolerated, offering potent antiallergic properties without sedation. Levocetirizine boasts a higher affinity for H1 receptors—twice that of cetirizine—and provides rapid, long-lasting relief, allowing for once-daily dosing.

Dosage & Administration

• Adults and Children 12 Years and Older: Recommended dosage is 5 mg once daily.
• Children 6 to 11 Years: Recommended dosage is 2.5 mg (½ tablet or 1 teaspoon of oral solution) once daily.
• Children 6 Months to 5 Years: Recommended dosage is 1.25 mg (½ teaspoon of oral solution) once daily.
• Pediatric Use: Dosing for chronic idiopathic urticaria in children aged 6 months to 17 years is based on adult efficacy data.
• Geriatric Use: Insufficient data exist for patients aged 65 and older to determine any differences in response.
• Hepatic Impairment: No dosage adjustment is necessary for patients with liver issues.
• Renal Impairment:
  • Mild (creatinine clearance 50-80 ml/min): 2.5 mg once daily.
  • Moderate (creatinine clearance 30-50 ml/min): 2.5 mg every other day.
  • Severe (creatinine clearance 10-30 ml/min): 2.5 mg twice weekly (every 3-4 days).
  • End-stage renal disease (creatinine clearance <10 ml/min) and hemodialysis patients should avoid Levocetirizine.

Interaction

Seasonix is not known to interact significantly with other medications.

Contraindications

Levocetirizine is contraindicated in individuals with hypersensitivity to levocetirizine, cetirizine, or hydroxyzine. It should not be used in patients with severe renal impairment (creatinine clearance <10 ml/min).

Side Effects

Levocetirizine is generally well-tolerated, but rare side effects may include headache, dry mouth, fatigue, and skin rash.

Pregnancy & Lactation

Classified as Pregnancy Category B, Levocetirizine should be used during pregnancy only if clearly needed, as there are no well-controlled studies in pregnant women. It is also excreted in breast milk, so it is not recommended for nursing mothers.

Precautions & Warnings

Use with caution in patients with epilepsy, renal impairment, and during pregnancy and lactation.

Overdose Effects

No significant adverse effects have been reported from overdoses. However, in cases of overdosage, symptomatic and supportive treatment is advised.
