Indications
Eye/Ear/Nasal Solution: This solution is designed to address dry nasal membranes caused by cold or allergy medications. It effectively moistens dry nasal passages from dry climates or air travel and aids in dissolving mucus from stuffy noses. It also helps clear the nose post-surgery. As a sterile saline solution, it can cleanse wounds, body cavities, and medical equipment like bandages and catheters. Additionally, it serves as a diluent for medications used in irrigation, such as bacitracin and polymyxin.
Intravenous Solution: This solution is utilized in managing metabolic alkalosis, treating gastroenteritis, and during or after surgical procedures. It also serves as a priming fluid for hemodialysis and as a diluent for drug infusions. Saloride 0.9% is commonly used for sterile irrigation and dilution processes.
Pharmacology
Nasal Drop: The Sodium Chloride nasal drop is a non-pharmacological, isotonic saline solution designed to moisturize nasal membranes. It provides comfort for prolonged use, dissolving and softening thick or crusty mucus to ease breathing. Excess sodium is mainly excreted by the kidneys, with minor amounts lost in feces and sweat.
Nasal Spray: Sodium Chloride 0.9% Nasal Spray helps moisturize the nasal passages by dissolving and softening thick mucus, facilitating easier breathing. For infants and young children with stuffy noses, it makes mucus removal easier with a nasal bulb syringe. Excess sodium is primarily excreted by the kidneys.
Dosage
Nasal Drop:
- Nasal Congestion: For infants, 1-2 drops in each nostril before feeds to alleviate congestion and support better suckling.
- Ear Wax Removal: Warm to room temperature before use. Lie on one side, apply 3-4 drops into the ear canal, wait a few minutes, then stand up. Use 3-4 times a day for 3-5 days.
