Indications
Eye/Ear/Nasal Solution: Ideal for alleviating dry nasal membranes, this solution is beneficial for conditions like dry nose caused by cold or allergy medications. It helps moisten nasal passages affected by dry climates or airplane travel, assists in dissolving mucus from congested noses, and aids in post-surgical nasal clearance. Additionally, this sterile saline solution is used for cleansing wounds, body cavities, and medical equipment such as bandages, catheters, and drainage tubes. It also serves as a diluent for mixing other medications for body irrigation, including bacitracin and polymyxin.
Intravenous Solution: Saloride 0.9% is used in managing metabolic alkalosis, treating gastroenteritis, and supporting patients during and after surgery. It is also utilized as a priming fluid in haemodialysis procedures. This solution often acts as a diluent for drug additives and is widely employed for sterile irrigation and dilution processes.
Pharmacology
Nasal Drops: Sodium Chloride nasal drops are an isotonic saline solution designed to moisturize nasal membranes. This formulation provides comfort for prolonged use, helping to dissolve and soften thick or crusty mucus, thereby facilitating easier breathing. Sodium is primarily excreted by the kidneys, with minor amounts lost through feces and sweat.
Nasal Spray: Sodium Chloride 0.9% Nasal Spray is effective in moistening the nasal passages by dissolving and softening thick mucus, making it easier to breathe. For infants and young children who cannot blow their noses, this spray aids in mucus removal using a nasal bulb syringe, relieving congestion and improving breathing.
Dosage
Nasal Drops:
- Nasal Congestion: For infants, administer 1-2 drops in each nostril before feeding to relieve congestion and improve suckling.
- Ear Wax Removal: Warm the Sodium Chloride nasal wash to room temperature before use. Lie on one side and apply 3-4 drops into the ear canal. Wait a few minutes before standing up. For ages 6 months and older, use 3-4 drops 3-4 times a day for 3-5 days.
