Indications
Rynex is effective for alleviating nasal congestion linked to various conditions, including acute and chronic rhinitis, the common cold, sinusitis, upper respiratory allergies, epistaxis, and hay fever. It also serves as a nasal decongestant in cases of otitis media.
Pharmacology
Oxymetazoline Hydrochloride, an imidazoline derivative and sympathomimetic amine, acts as a direct agonist at α-adrenoceptors while showing no activity on β-adrenoceptors. When applied topically to the nasal mucosa, it induces rapid and prolonged vasoconstriction of arterioles, which decreases blood flow and reduces swelling in the mucosa. This mechanism enhances airway potency and facilitates better drainage of the nasal sinuses.
