Indications:
Rubalon ophthalmic suspension is designed to treat steroid-responsive inflammation affecting the palpebral and bulbar conjunctiva, cornea, and anterior segment of the eye.
Pharmacology:
Fluorometholone Acetate, a potent corticosteroid, provides exceptional anti-inflammatory effects against mechanical, chemical, and immunological triggers. It operates by inducing lipocortins, which inhibit phospholipase A2 and consequently reduce the production of inflammatory mediators like prostaglandins and leukotrienes. Clinical studies show that Fluorometholone is less likely to increase intraocular pressure compared to Dexamethasone.
Dosage & Administration:
Shake the bottle well before use. Instill 1 to 2 drops into the conjunctival sac 2 to 4 times daily. In the first 24 to 48 hours, the dosage can be increased to 2 drops every hour if necessary. Avoid discontinuing the therapy abruptly.
Use in Children:
Safety and efficacy in children under 2 years have not been established.
Interaction:
No specific interaction studies have been conducted for Rubalon ophthalmic suspension.
Contraindications:
Do not use if you have acute superficial Herpes simplex keratitis, fungal eye infections, vaccinia, varicella, mycobacterial eye infections, tuberculosis of the eye, or hypersensitivity to any component of this medication.
Side Effects:
Possible side effects include elevated intraocular pressure, glaucoma, vision loss, eye irritation, hyperemia, pain, visual disturbances, foreign body sensation, eyelid edema, blurred vision, discharge, itching, swelling, cataract formation, ulcerative keratitis, and hypersensitivity reactions. Prolonged use may also lead to delayed wound healing.
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Pregnancy Category B3. Use during pregnancy only if the benefits outweigh the risks. It is unclear if the drug passes into breast milk. Consider discontinuing breastfeeding or the medication based on the drug’s importance to the mother.
Precautions & Warnings:
Exercise caution when using corticosteroids in patients with a history of Herpes simplex keratitis. Avoid prolonged use beyond 10 days without regular intraocular pressure monitoring. Corticosteroids may mask, activate, or worsen eye infections. Seek alternative treatments if no improvement is observed.
Therapeutic Class:
Ophthalmic Steroid Preparations
Storage Conditions:
