Pharmacology
This formulation contains two active ingredients: Cinnarizine and Dimenhydrinate. Cinnarizine is a calcium antagonist, while Dimenhydrinate is classified as an antihistamine. Together, they effectively alleviate symptoms of vertigo and nausea, with the combination proving more effective than each ingredient alone.
Dosage & Administration
Adults: Take 1 tablet three times daily after meals.
Children and Adolescents (under 18): Not recommended.
Elderly: Follow adult dosage guidelines.
Use only as directed by a registered healthcare professional.
Interactions
Avoid concurrent use of alcohol, CNS depressants, or tricyclic antidepressants, as these may enhance the sedative effects of Cinnarizine and Dimenhydrinate.
Contraindications
Do not use in patients with severe liver impairment, known hypersensitivity to the active ingredients, angle-closure glaucoma, seizures, suspected increased intracranial pressure, alcohol abuse, or urinary retention due to prostatic disorders.
Side Effects
Common side effects may include drowsiness, dry mouth, headache, and abdominal pain. Rare effects can involve vision disturbances, allergic reactions, light sensitivity, and urination difficulties. Other potential reactions include weight gain, constipation, chest tightness, jaundice, exacerbation of angle-closure glaucoma, uncontrollable movements, restlessness, and severe skin reactions.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Cinnarizine and Dimenhydrinate should be avoided during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
Precautions & Warnings
These medications do not significantly lower blood pressure but should be used cautiously in patients with hypotension. It’s recommended to take them after meals to reduce gastric irritation. Caution is advised for patients with Parkinson’s disease.
Overdose Effects
Symptoms of overdose may include drowsiness, dizziness, ataxia, and anticholinergic effects such as dry mouth, flushed face, dilated pupils, rapid heartbeat, fever, headache, and urinary retention. Supportive care is essential, and gastric lavage with isotonic sodium chloride solution may be needed.
