Pharmacology
Famotidine, the active ingredient in Reducid, is a histamine H2-receptor antagonist. It works by fully blocking histamine’s action on the H2 receptors of parietal cells in the stomach, thus reducing gastric acid secretion, whether it’s basal, overnight, or pentagastrin-stimulated. The effects of Famotidine on the H2 receptors are slowly reversible, as the drug dissociates gradually from the receptor sites.
