Indications
Permisol cream is clinically indicated for the effective treatment of scabies and crab lice infestations (pediculosis). Scabies can spread easily, and it is recommended that all members of a household be treated simultaneously if one person is diagnosed.
Always consult a registered healthcare professional before use.
Pharmacology
Permisol cream contains Permethrin, a pyrethroid insecticide that acts as a topical scabicidal agent. It works by disrupting nerve cell membranes, leading to the paralysis and death of the scabies mites (Sarcoptes scabiei). Permethrin interferes with sodium channels, delaying repolarization and causing paralysis of the parasites.
Pharmacokinetics: When applied topically, less than 0.5% of the permethrin is absorbed into the bloodstream, with minimal systemic exposure. Permethrin is metabolized in the liver and primarily excreted via the urine.
Dosage
- Adults and children over 12 years: Full tube (50 g)
- Children aged 6-12 years: Up to ½ tube (25 g)
- Children aged 1-5 years: Up to ¼ tube (12.5 g)
- Children aged 2 months to 1 year: Up to ⅛ tube (6.25 g)

Administration
Before applying Permisol cream, ensure that the skin is clean, cool, and dry. Avoid hot showers or baths right before application.
- For adults and children over 2 years: Apply the cream from neck to toes, covering all skin areas, including between fingers, toes, under nails, and the soles of the feet.
- For infants under 2 years: Apply to the face, neck, ears, and scalp, avoiding the eyes and mouth.
Leave the cream on for at least 8 hours before washing off. Reapply to any area that may have been washed during the treatment period. If necessary, reapply the cream after 7 days, as advised by your doctor.
Interactions
Before using Permisol cream, avoid using corticosteroids for eczema-like reactions, as this could worsen the scabies condition by reducing the immune response to the mites.
Contraindications
Permisol cream is contraindicated for individuals with a known hypersensitivity to permethrin or other pyrethroid compounds. Nursing staff handling permethrin should wear gloves to avoid irritation.
Side Effects
Some users may experience mild skin irritation such as burning, stinging, or tingling immediately after application. Other temporary symptoms may include redness, swelling, eczema, rash, and itching.
Pregnancy & Lactation
There are no specific studies on the use of permethrin in pregnant women. It should be used during pregnancy only under medical supervision. It is also unknown whether permethrin passes into human milk, so it is not recommended for use during breastfeeding.
Precautions & Warnings
Treatment with Permisol may temporarily worsen symptoms like itching, swelling, and redness. Be cautious to avoid contact with the eyes during application. If the cream gets into the eyes, rinse immediately with water.
