Description
Oricox is a potent nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) recognized for its anti-inflammatory, analgesic, and antipyretic effects. It operates by inhibiting prostaglandin synthesis, similar to other NSAIDs.
Pharmacology
Etoricoxib, the active ingredient in Oricox, is a selective COX-2 inhibitor. Unlike non-selective NSAIDs that affect both COX-1 and COX-2, Oricox primarily targets COX-2, which is responsible for pain and inflammation. This selectivity helps reduce the risk of gastrointestinal damage typically associated with traditional NSAIDs.
Dosage & Administration
For adults and adolescents aged 16 and older:
- Osteoarthritis: 30 mg once daily; may increase to 60 mg for better symptom relief.
- Rheumatoid arthritis: 90 mg once daily.
- Ankylosing spondylitis: 90 mg once daily.
- Acute gouty arthritis: 120 mg once daily for up to 8 days.
- Postoperative dental pain: 90 mg once daily for a maximum of 3 days.
Consult a healthcare professional for personalized dosage.
