Description

Oricox is a potent nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) recognized for its anti-inflammatory, analgesic, and antipyretic effects. It operates by inhibiting prostaglandin synthesis, similar to other NSAIDs.

Pharmacology

Etoricoxib, the active ingredient in Oricox, is a selective COX-2 inhibitor. Unlike non-selective NSAIDs that affect both COX-1 and COX-2, Oricox primarily targets COX-2, which is responsible for pain and inflammation. This selectivity helps reduce the risk of gastrointestinal damage typically associated with traditional NSAIDs.

Dosage & Administration

For adults and adolescents aged 16 and older:

• Osteoarthritis: 30 mg once daily; may increase to 60 mg for better symptom relief.
• Rheumatoid arthritis: 90 mg once daily.
• Ankylosing spondylitis: 90 mg once daily.
• Acute gouty arthritis: 120 mg once daily for up to 8 days.
• Postoperative dental pain: 90 mg once daily for a maximum of 3 days.

Interaction

Oricox may interact with several medications:

• Oral anticoagulants: Can increase prothrombin time.
• Diuretics and antihypertensives: May reduce their effectiveness.
• Acetylsalicylic Acid: Can be used together for cardiovascular protection.
• Ciclosporin and tacrolimus: May enhance nephrotoxicity.
• Lithium: Can increase plasma levels of lithium.

Take Oricox without regard to meals.

Contraindications

Oricox should not be used in patients with:

• History of allergic reactions to NSAIDs
• Severe liver or kidney dysfunction
• Pregnancy or lactation
• Congestive heart failure or uncontrolled hypertension

• Rare effects include confusion, hallucinations, and electrolyte disturbances.

Pregnancy & Lactation

Use of Oricox is not recommended for women trying to conceive. It is not known if etoricoxib is excreted in human milk, so breastfeeding is discouraged while using this medication.

Precautions & Warnings

Caution is warranted for patients at risk of gastrointestinal complications, cardiovascular issues, or renal impairment. Monitor liver function regularly, and discontinue use if abnormalities occur.

Overdose Effects

Doses up to 500 mg have shown minimal toxicity. In case of overdose, standard supportive measures should be taken.
