Indications
Oral-C Mouthwash is a powerful antimicrobial solution designed to help prevent the formation of dental plaque. It is effective in treating and preventing gingivitis and maintaining optimal oral hygiene. This mouthwash is particularly beneficial when regular tooth brushing is not feasible, such as after oral surgery or for patients with physical or mental disabilities. It can also be used as part of a post-periodontal surgery or treatment regimen to support gingival healing.
Use only as directed by a registered healthcare provider.
Pharmacology
Chlorhexidine, the active ingredient in Oral-C Mouthwash, is a potent cationic agent with broad-spectrum activity against both gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria. Its bactericidal effects occur at higher concentrations, binding to the negatively charged bacterial cell walls and disrupting microbial structures. At lower concentrations, it exhibits a bacteriostatic effect by altering the bacterial cell’s osmotic balance and causing leakage of essential cellular components like potassium and phosphorus.
Dosage & Administration
- Adults: Rinse thoroughly with 10 ml of mouthwash for 1 minute, twice a day.
- In dental surgeries, patients should rinse with the mouthwash for one minute prior to treatment.
- For Gingivitis Treatment: Use for approximately 1 month, though responses may vary.
- For Aphthous Ulceration and Oral Candidiasis: Continue treatment for 48 hours after clinical improvement.
- For Dental Stomatitis: Soak dentures in Chlorhexidine Gluconate mouthwash for 15 minutes, twice daily.
