Pharmacology
Noteron contains Norethisterone, a synthetic progestogen that mimics the effects of progesterone. It serves as a potent inhibitor of ovulation and exhibits weak estrogenic and androgenic properties. This medication is effective in treating various menstrual cycle disorders. Norethisterone is well absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract, with effects lasting at least 24 hours, and is excreted via urine.
Dosage & Administration
For oral use only. Not intended for children.
- Dysfunctional uterine bleeding: Take 1 tablet three times daily for 10 days. Bleeding typically resolves within 1-3 days, with withdrawal bleeding resembling a normal period occurring 2-4 days after stopping treatment.
- Prophylaxis against recurrent dysfunctional bleeding: If normal ovarian function does not resume, take 1 tablet twice daily from days 19 to 26 of the cycle.
- Premenstrual syndrome: For symptoms like headaches, breast discomfort, and mood changes, take 2-3 tablets daily from days 19 to 26 of the cycle. Repeat for several cycles as needed.
- Postponement of menstruation: To delay menstruation, take 1 tablet three times daily starting 3 days before the expected period. A normal period should occur 2-3 days after discontinuation.
- Endometriosis: Begin treatment on day 5 of the cycle with 2 tablets daily for the first few weeks. Increase to 4 or 5 tablets daily if spotting occurs. Continue for 4-6 months or longer if necessary.
- Menorrhagia: Take 1 tablet 2-3 times daily from days 19 to 26 of the cycle.
