Description

Indications

Nitazox is primarily prescribed for the management of diarrhea resulting from infections caused by Cryptosporidium parvum, Giardia lamblia, and Entamoeba histolytica.
Always follow the advice of a registered healthcare professional when taking this medication.

Pharmacology

Nitazoxanide is a synthetic antiprotozoal agent intended for oral use. Its antiprotozoal properties stem from its ability to inhibit the Pyruvate Ferredoxin Oxido Reductase (PFOR) enzyme-dependent electron transfer reaction, which is vital for the anaerobic energy metabolism of protozoa. Both Nitazoxanide and its active metabolite, tizoxanide, have demonstrated effectiveness in vitro against the growth of Cryptosporidium parvum sporozoites and Giardia lamblia trophozoites.

  • For children aged 1-3 years: Administer 1 teaspoonful (5 ml) of suspension every 12 hours for 3 days.

  • For individuals aged 12 years and older: Administer 5 teaspoonfuls (25 ml) of suspension or 1 tablet every 12 hours for 3 days.
