Indications
Napa is designed to alleviate a variety of conditions related to pain and fever, including:
- Fever, Common Cold, and Influenza
- Headache, Toothache, Earache, and Bodyache
- Myalgia, Neuralgia, and Dysmenorrhea
- Sprains, Colic Pain, Back Pain, Post-Operative Pain, and Postpartum Pain
- Inflammatory Pain and Post-Vaccination Pain in Children
- Rheumatic and Osteoarthritic Pain
Pharmacology
Napa contains paracetamol, a widely used analgesic and antipyretic with minimal anti-inflammatory effects. Paracetamol, also known as acetaminophen, acts mainly in the central nervous system by inhibiting cyclooxygenase (COX-1, COX-2, and COX-3) enzymes involved in prostaglandin synthesis. This results in effective pain relief and fever reduction while avoiding the common side effects associated with aspirin.
Dosage & Administration
Tablet:
- Adults: 1-2 tablets every 4-6 hours, up to a maximum of 4 g (8 tablets) daily.
- Children (6-12 years): ½ to 1 tablet 3-4 times daily, not exceeding 2.6 g/day for long-term use.
Extended Release Tablet:
- Adults & Children over 12 years: 2 tablets every 6-8 hours, not exceeding 6 tablets per 24 hours. Do not crush.
Syrup/Suspension:
- Children under 3 months: 10 mg/kg body weight (5 mg/kg if jaundiced), 3-4 times daily.
- 3 months to below 1 year: ½ to 1 teaspoonful, 3-4 times daily.
- 1-5 years: 1-2 teaspoonfuls, 3-4 times daily.
- 6-12 years: 2 teaspoonfuls, 3-4 times daily.
- Adults: 4-8 teaspoonfuls, 3-4 times daily.
Suppository:
- Children 3-12 months: 60-120 mg, 4 times daily.
- Children 1-5 years: 125-250 mg, 4 times daily.
- Children 6-12 years: 250-500 mg, 4 times daily.
- Adults & Children over 12 years: 0.5-1 g, 4 times daily.
Paediatric Drop:
- Children up to 3 months: 0.5 ml (40 mg)
- 4 to 11 months: 1.0 ml (80 mg)
- 1 to 2 years: 1.5 ml (120 mg). Do not exceed 5 doses daily for up to 5 days.
Paracetamol Tablet with Actizorb Technology:
- Adults and Children (12 years and over): 1-2 tablets every 4-6 hours, not exceeding 8 tablets in 24 hours.
- Children (7 to 11 years): ½-1 tablet every 4-6 hours, not exceeding 4 tablets in 24 hours. Not recommended for children under 7 years.

Interactions
Concurrent use with barbiturates, tricyclic antidepressants, or alcohol can impair paracetamol metabolism and increase hepatotoxicity. Chronic use of anticonvulsants or oral contraceptives may also affect paracetamol levels.
Contraindications
Do not use Napa if you have known hypersensitivity to paracetamol.

- Abdominal Pain
- Flatulence
- Rash
- Insomnia
- Hyperglycemia
Pregnancy & Lactation
Paracetamol is classified as FDA Pregnancy Category B. Use during pregnancy should be based on a physician’s recommendation. It is excreted in breast milk but not in significant amounts, and breastfeeding is generally considered safe.
Precautions & Warnings
Exercise caution when administering Napa to individuals with severe renal or hepatic impairment. Overdose risks are higher for those with non-cirrhotic alcoholic liver disease. Avoid exceeding the recommended dose and avoid combining with other products containing paracetamol.
Overdose Effects
Symptoms of overdose include pallor, nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain within the first 24 hours. Severe cases may lead to liver damage, hepatic failure, and acute renal failure. Immediate treatment is crucial, including activated charcoal and N-acetylcysteine if appropriate.
Therapeutic Class
Napa is classified as a non-opioid analgesic.
