Pharmacology

Nabumetone, a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID), offers anti-inflammatory, analgesic, and antipyretic effects. The drug is a prodrug, metabolized in the liver into its active form, 6-methoxy-2-naphthylacetic acid (6MNA), which inhibits prostaglandin synthesis and helps reduce inflammation in the body.

Dosage & Administration

• Osteoarthritis & Rheumatoid Arthritis: The standard starting dose is 1000 mg once daily. Some patients may benefit from doses between 1500 mg to 2000 mg daily, either as a single or divided dose.
• Renal insufficiency: Dosing adjustments may be needed for patients with moderate or severe renal impairment.
• Pediatric Use: Safety and efficacy in children have not been established.

Drug Interactions

NSAIDs, including Nabumetone, can lead to renal toxicity, especially in patients with compromised kidney function. Caution is necessary in patients with heart failure, liver dysfunction, or those taking diuretics.

Overdose Effects

Overdose symptoms generally include drowsiness, nausea, and abdominal pain. In severe cases, gastrointestinal bleeding, hypertension, and acute renal failure may occur. Supportive care is the primary treatment for overdose, and there’s no specific antidote.
