Indications
Mirakof serves as a remedy for dry (non-productive) coughs, often stemming from recent viral infections. Additionally, it proves beneficial for managing pre- and post-operative cough sedation in individuals undergoing surgical procedures and bronchoscopy. Its application extends to acute coughs of various origins, including but not limited to whooping cough and coughs associated with acute lower respiratory tract infections such as tracheitis, laryngitis, and bronchitis.
Pharmacology
Butamirate Citrate directly targets the brain’s cough center to alleviate coughing. Distinguished by its safety and non-sedative properties, Butamirate Citrate bears no chemical or pharmacological resemblance to opium alkaloids. Following oral intake, it is swiftly and entirely absorbed. Peak concentration is achieved within 9 hours with sustained-release tablets. Notably, it exhibits high protein binding, and its plasma elimination half-life spans about 13 hours. The active metabolites of Butamirate Citrate also exert antitussive effects.
