Pharmacology
Olopatadine is an antihistamine that blocks histamine action in the body, effectively reducing allergy symptoms. It is known to treat sneezing, itching, and runny nose caused by allergies.
Mode of Action:
Olopatadine works as an anti-allergic by stabilizing mast cells and blocking histamine H1 receptors. It prevents the release of inflammatory mediators such as tryptase and prostaglandin D2, reducing allergy symptoms significantly.
Pharmacokinetics:
Absorption: Olopatadine reaches peak plasma concentration between 30 minutes to 1 hour after intranasal administration.
Distribution: It binds moderately to proteins in human serum, independent of drug concentration.
Metabolism: Olopatadine undergoes minimal metabolism, with several minor metabolites circulating in plasma.
Elimination: It has an elimination half-life of 8 to 12 hours and is mainly excreted through urine.
