Indications
Leflox Eye Drops are formulated for the effective treatment of bacterial conjunctivitis caused by susceptible strains of various bacteria. These include:
Aerobic Gram-Positive Bacteria
- Corynebacterium species
- Staphylococcus aureus
- Staphylococcus epidermidis
- Streptococcus pneumoniae
- Streptococcus (Groups C/F, Group G)
- Streptococcus viridans group
Aerobic Gram-Negative Bacteria
- Acinetobacter lwoffii
- Haemophilus influenzae
- Serratia marcescens
In addition to treating bacterial conjunctivitis, Leflox is also effective for other ocular infections such as bacterial corneal ulcers, blepharitis, hordeolum, and perioperative ocular conditions.

Pharmacology
Leflox (Levofloxacin) Eye Drops is a sterile topical ophthalmic solution that serves as a potent third-generation fluoroquinolone antibiotic. This broad-spectrum, bactericidal medication targets both Gram-positive and Gram-negative ocular pathogens. Levofloxacin works by inhibiting bacterial enzymes, topoisomerase IV, and DNA gyrase, which are essential for DNA replication, transcription, repair, and recombination in bacteria.
Dosage & Administration
0.5% Eye Drops (For Adults and Children Aged 1 Year and Older):
- Days 1 and 2: Instill 1-2 drops in the affected eye(s) every 2 hours while awake (up to 8 times per day).
- Days 3-7: Instill 1-2 drops every 4 hours while awake (up to 4 times per day).
1.5% Eye Drops (For Adults and Children Aged 6 Years and Older):
- Days 1-3: Instill 1-2 drops in the affected eye(s) every 30 minutes to 2 hours during waking hours, and also approximately 4-6 hours after sleeping.
- Day 4 through completion: Instill 1-2 drops every 1-4 hours during waking hours.
For Children Under 1 Year: Safety and effectiveness of Levofloxacin for children under 1 year of age have not been established.

Drug Interactions
While specific interaction studies have not been conducted with Leflox, systemic quinolone medications have been shown to:
- Increase plasma concentrations of theophylline
- Affect caffeine metabolism
- Enhance the effects of oral anticoagulants like warfarin
Contraindications
Leflox Eye Drops should not be used by individuals with a history of hypersensitivity to Levofloxacin, other quinolones, or any of the components of this medication.
Side Effects
In clinical studies, side effects were observed in 1-3% of patients and may include:
- Transient blurred vision
- Fever
- Foreign body sensation
- Headache
- Ocular discomfort or burning
- Pharyngitis
- Photophobia
Less than 1% of patients may experience:
- Allergic reactions
- Lid edema

Pregnancy & Lactation
Pregnancy Category C: Levofloxacin should only be used during pregnancy if the potential benefits outweigh the potential risks to the fetus. It is unknown whether Levofloxacin is excreted in human breast milk. Caution should be exercised when administering Leflox Eye Drops to nursing mothers.
Precautions & Warnings
Prolonged use of Leflox Eye Drops may lead to the growth of non-susceptible organisms, including fungi. If a superinfection occurs, discontinue the medication and seek alternative treatment.
