K-One MM

Indications

K-One MM (Vitamin K-1) serves various therapeutic purposes:

• Prophylaxis and treatment of haemorrhagic disease in newborns.
• Addressing haemorrhage or risk thereof due to severe hypoprothrombinemia, including conditions like overdosage of coumarin-type anticoagulants, coadministration with phenylbutazone, and other forms of hypovitaminosis K.
• Prevention and treatment of bleeding resulting from vitamin K deficiency.

Pharmacology

Phytomenadione, a vital component of K-One MM, facilitates coagulation by participating in the carboxylation process of clotting factors. Its administration promotes synthesis of essential coagulation factors by the liver, thereby reversing abnormal coagulation status and bleeding due to Phytomenadione deficiency.

Dosage & Administration

For prophylaxis and therapy, administration routes and dosages vary:

• Neonates typically receive 2 mg orally at birth, with subsequent doses according to a specified schedule. IM or IV routes are alternatives if oral administration is not feasible.
• Children over 1 year of age may receive 5-10 mg orally or a single 1 mg IM dose if oral administration is uncertain.
• Special risk neonates may receive 1 mg intramuscularly or intravenously, with dosage adjustments based on clinical factors.

Interaction

K-One MM counteracts the effects of coumarin-type anticoagulants and may be affected by concomitant anticonvulsant use.

Contraindications

Patients with known hypersensitivity to any component of K-One MM should avoid its use.

Side Effects

Although rare, isolated reports suggest potential occurrences of anaphylactoid reactions and venous irritation or phlebitis post-parenteral administration of K-One MM injections.

Precautions & Warnings

Close monitoring of coagulation parameters is essential, particularly in patients with severely impaired liver function post-administration of K-One MM.
