Indications
Our dietary supplement is formulated to support the management of osteoarthritis affecting the knee, hip, spine, hand, and other areas. Additionally, it offers relief for rheumatoid arthritis, sports-related injuries, migraines, various skin conditions (such as psoriasis), vascular issues (including atherosclerosis), kidney stones, and inflammatory bowel diseases like ulcerative colitis and leaky gut syndrome.
Pharmacology
Glucosamine is a naturally occurring amino-sugar essential for synthesizing glycosaminoglycans (GAGs), such as Hyaluronic Acid, Keratan Sulfate, and Chondroitin Sulfate. These GAGs combine with proteins to form proteoglycans, crucial for maintaining the health of articular cartilage. When cartilage deteriorates, osteoarthritis can develop. Glucosamine is also involved in the formation of ligaments, tendons, nails, and other connective tissues. Supplementing with Glucosamine Sulfate helps increase the body’s Glucosamine levels, aiding in cartilage production and repair, and activating chondrocytes to produce more GAGs and proteoglycans.
Chondroitin Sulfate, a glycosaminoglycan found in connective tissues, particularly articular cartilage, complements Glucosamine Sulfate by providing a substrate for proteoglycans. It also helps preserve existing cartilage by inhibiting Matrix Metalloproteinase (MMP) enzymes that break down proteoglycans.
The combined effect of Glucosamine and Chondroitin Sulfate is synergistic, offering significant benefits for severe osteoarthritis by addressing both symptoms and disease progression. This combination can be as effective as NSAIDs in managing osteoarthritic pain, with improved tolerability and patient compliance. It is also beneficial for the recovery phase of musculoskeletal injuries, such as tendon and ligament strains.
Dosage & Administration
For 250/200 mg tablets: Take 1 to 2 tablets three times daily. Adjust dosage based on response and body weight. Dosage can be reduced after 60 days if required, for cost-effectiveness. Recommended daily dosages based on body weight are:
- Under 54 kg: 1000 mg Glucosamine Sulfate & 800 mg Chondroitin Sulfate
- 54 kg to 91 kg: 1500 mg Glucosamine Sulfate & 1200 mg Chondroitin Sulfate
- Over 91 kg: 2000 mg Glucosamine Sulfate & 1600 mg Chondroitin Sulfate
For 750/600 mg tablets: Take 1 tablet twice daily or as directed by your physician.
Always follow your healthcare provider’s advice when taking this medication.
Interactions
Glucosamine and Chondroitin do not show significant interactions with antibiotics, antidepressants, antihypertensives, nitrates, antiarrhythmics, anxiolytics, hypoglycemic agents, antisecretives, or antiasthmatics. However, Chondroitin may enhance the blood-thinning effects of anticoagulants like Warfarin and Heparin.
Contraindications
There are no specific contraindications for Glucosamine and Chondroitin. However, individuals with known hypersensitivity (e.g., allergies to shellfish or sulfur) should avoid these supplements.
Side Effects
Safety studies indicate that Glucosamine Sulfate and Chondroitin Sulfate have minimal side effects. Any adverse effects, such as mild and reversible intestinal flatulence, are comparable to placebo.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Pregnant women or those who may become pregnant should avoid Glucosamine Sulfate and Chondroitin Sulfate due to insufficient research on their effects on fetal development. Consult a healthcare professional before use during pregnancy or lactation.
Precautions & Warnings
Patients with diabetes should monitor blood glucose levels regularly while using Glucosamine. There are no specific studies on patients with renal or hepatic insufficiency, but these supplements generally do not pose limitations for such patients. Use under medical supervision if you have severe hepatic or renal conditions. Children should not use these supplements.
