Indications
Moxifloxacin & Dexamethasone eye drop is prescribed for treating eye infections caused by susceptible microorganisms and preventing inflammation and bacterial infection post-eye surgery.
Composition
Each ml contains:
- Moxifloxacin Hydrochloride BP equivalent to Moxifloxacin 5 mg
- Dexamethasone Sodium Phosphate USP equivalent to Dexamethasone Phosphate 1 mg.
Pharmacology
Moxifloxacin inhibits both topoisomerase II (DNA gyrase) and topoisomerase IV, essential enzymes involved in bacterial DNA replication and repair. Dexamethasone, a cortisone derivative, exhibits anti-allergic, anti-exudative, and anti-proliferative properties by inhibiting phospholipase A2 and neutrophil chemotaxis.
Dosage & Administration
For infection prevention and post-surgical ocular inflammation: Instill 1 drop, 4 times a day, in the eye to be operated, from 1 day before surgery until 15 days after surgery.
Contraindications
Avoid in patients with hypersensitivity to other quinolones, glaucoma, ocular diseases causing corneal or scleral thinning, and viral or fungal eye conditions.
Side Effects
Moxifloxacin may cause conjunctivitis, decreased visual acuity, and dry eye, while Dexamethasone can lead to cataract formation and secondary ocular infections.
