Indications
Idatix SR is prescribed for managing essential hypertension. It is particularly effective in patients with renal impairment, although its diuretic effect may be diminished. Additionally, Idatix SR is indicated for addressing salt and fluid retention associated with congestive heart failure.
Always consult a registered healthcare professional before using this medication.
Pharmacology
Indapamide, the active ingredient in Idatix SR, functions as a diuretic antihypertensive. It promotes vasodilation by inhibiting the transport of calcium and other ions (sodium, potassium) across cellular membranes. Its antihypertensive effects extend beyond renal function, reducing vascular hyperreactivity and lowering total peripheral and arteriolar resistance.
Dosage & Administration
Take one tablet daily, preferably in the morning. In cases of more severe hypertension, Indapamide can be combined with other classes of antihypertensive medications. The safety and efficacy of Indatix SR in pediatric patients have not been established.
Always consult a registered healthcare professional before using this medication.
Interaction
Idatix SR may enhance the effects of other antihypertensive agents. Similar to thiazides, it may reduce arterial responsiveness to norepinephrine. Diuretics, including Indapamide, should generally not be used with lithium, as they can decrease its renal clearance, increasing the risk of lithium toxicity.
Contraindications
Idatix SR should not be taken in the following conditions:
- Hypersensitivity to sulfonamides
- Severe renal failure
- Hepatic encephalopathy or severe liver dysfunction
- Hypokalemia
Side Effects
Common side effects of Idatix SR may include headache, loss of appetite, gastric irritation, nausea, vomiting, constipation, and diarrhea.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Due to a lack of adequate and controlled studies in pregnant women, Indapamide is not recommended during pregnancy. Mothers using Indapamide should avoid breastfeeding.
Precautions & Warnings
Regular monitoring of potassium and uric acid levels is advised, especially for individuals prone to hypokalemia and patients with gout. Although allergic reactions were not observed in clinical trials, those with a history of sulfonamide allergies should be closely monitored.
Overdose Effects
Symptoms of overdose may include allergies, skin rashes, epigastric pain, nausea, photosensitivity, dizziness, weakness, and paraesthesia. Treatment is supportive and symptomatic, focusing on correcting any electrolyte imbalances.
Therapeutic Class
Thiazide diuretics and related medications.
Storage Conditions
Store in a cool, dry place away from light and moisture.
