Indications

Fungidal Oral Gel: Treats oral and gastrointestinal candidiasis, eliminates fungal colonization in the mouth and gastrointestinal tract, and manages superinfections caused by gram-positive bacteria.

Fungidal Cream: Effective against dermatomycoses, including athlete’s foot, ringworm, and candidial infections, along with other skin conditions like intertrigo and balanoposthitis.

Pharmacology

Pharmacodynamics: Miconazole, the active ingredient, exhibits antifungal activity against common dermatophytes and yeasts, as well as antibacterial properties against certain gram-positive bacteria.

Pharmacokinetics: Miconazole’s oral bioavailability is low, and it’s predominantly metabolized after absorption. Its mechanism involves disrupting ergosterol biosynthesis, leading to fungal cell death.

Dosage

Miconazole Oral Gel: Dosage varies based on age and condition, administered 4 times a day after meals for optimal effectiveness.

Miconazole Cream: Apply twice daily for most conditions, with variations in duration depending on the condition being treated.

Administration

Apply the gel directly to affected areas, ensuring thorough coverage and contact with the affected area for sustained relief. Treatment duration should extend beyond symptom disappearance for optimal results.

Interaction

Avoid concomitant use with certain medications like Terfenadine and Astemizole, which may interact with Fungidal and precipitate adverse effects.

Contraindications

Patients with known hypersensitivity to miconazole should avoid its use.
