Indications
Flonaspray is indicated for the prophylaxis and treatment of seasonal allergic rhinitis, including hay fever, and perennial rhinitis. It exhibits potent anti-inflammatory activity on the nasal mucosa without detectable systemic effects.
Description
Flonaspray is a synthetic trifluorinated corticosteroid with powerful anti-inflammatory properties. It comes in the form of an aqueous suspension, administered topically to the nasal mucosa through a metered, atomizing spray pump.
Pharmacology
Fluticasone propionate, the active ingredient, exerts anti-inflammatory and vasoconstrictor effects upon topical administration. Its exact mechanism of action involves reducing the number of mediator cells, eosinophils, and fibroblast activity, among other factors.
Dosage
For adults and children over 12 years, the recommended dose is 2 sprays in each nostril once daily, preferably in the morning. Children aged 4-11 years should use 1 spray in each nostril once daily, not exceeding a total of 4 sprays.
Administration
Shake the bottle gently and remove the dust cover. Insert the nasal applicator into one nostril, press firmly to release a spray while inhaling through the nose. Repeat the process for the other nostril.
Contraindications
Fluticasone propionate nasal spray is contraindicated in individuals with hypersensitivity to any of its components.
Side Effects
Fewer systemic side effects are observed due to limited absorption. Potential side effects may include drying of the nose and throat, unpleasant taste and smell, and increased incidence of nosebleeds.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Use during pregnancy should be considered only if the potential benefits outweigh the risks. It is not known whether Fluticasone Propionate is excreted in human breast milk.
Precautions & Warnings
Rare instances of wheezing, nasal septum perforation, cataracts, glaucoma, and increased intraocular pressure have been reported. Caution should be exercised with larger than recommended doses to avoid potential risks.
Therapeutic Class
