Indications:
Famomax is indicated for gastric ulcer, duodenal ulcer, anastomotic ulcer, acute stress ulcer, reflux esophagitis, Zollinger-Ellison syndrome, acute gastritis, and chronic gastritis in the acute exacerbation stage.
Pharmacology:
Famotidine, a histamine H2-receptor antagonist, inhibits gastric acid secretion by blocking H2-receptors on parietal cells, effective in various acid-related disorders.
Dosage & Administration:
For adults, Famotidine is typically prescribed as 20 mg twice daily for ulcer management or 40 mg once daily at bedtime. Dosage varies for acute gastritis and exacerbations of chronic gastritis. Pediatric dosing for conditions like GERD and ulcers is based on age.
Interaction:
Famomax has no clinically significant interactions with the cytochrome P450 system.
Contraindications:
Avoid Famomax in patients with known hypersensitivity to any component of the drug.
Side Effects:
Possible side effects include rash, constipation, diarrhea, dry mouth, nausea, vomiting, tachycardia, high blood pressure, headache, and rarely, drowsiness or insomnia.
