Description

Indications

Ezex preparations effectively treat various skin conditions including eczema, dermatitis, photodermatitis, otitis externa, irritant allergic dermatitis, intertrigo, prurigo nodularis, seborrhoeic dermatitis, and insect bite reactions. They can also serve as maintenance therapy between courses of more potent topical steroids.

Pharmacology

Clobetasone Butyrate, a topically active corticosteroid, offers a balanced blend of efficacy and safety. It outperforms 1% Hydrocortisone and other less active synthetic steroid preparations commonly used in eczema treatment. While all topical corticosteroids can cause cutaneous atrophy with misuse, Clobetasone Butyrate exhibits less thinning of the epidermis based on animal and human studies.

Dosage & Administration

Apply Ezex to affected areas up to four times daily until improvement occurs, then reduce frequency as needed.

Interactions

No potentially hazardous or useful interactions have been reported with Ezex.

Contraindications

Avoid using Ezex on skin lesions caused by viral (e.g., herpes simplex, chickenpox), fungal (e.g., candidiasis, tinea), or bacterial (e.g., impetigo) infections, or in cases of hypersensitivity to the preparations. Extreme caution is advised in infants and children to prevent adrenal suppression.

Side Effects

Hypersensitivity reactions may occur rarely; discontinue use if signs appear. Large-scale application may lead to transient adrenal suppression despite Ezex’s low systemic activity. Prolonged use may result in local atrophic changes, pigmentation changes, hypertrichosis, or symptom exacerbation.

Pregnancy & Lactation

Safety evidence in human pregnancy is inadequate; topical corticosteroids in pregnant animals have caused fetal abnormalities. Use during pregnancy and lactation should be cautious due to potential risks.

Precautions & Warnings

Exercise caution when applying Ezex to large areas, broken skin, or under occlusive dressings, as systemic effects may occur. Avoid indiscriminate use for pruritus and prolonged application on the face. Consider patient conditions such as peptic ulcer, osteoporosis, psychosis, diabetes mellitus, glaucoma, and more.

Overdose Effects

Acute overdosage is unlikely, but chronic misuse may lead to features of hypercorticism. Discontinue use in cases of chronic overdosage.

Therapeutic Class

Ezex belongs to the therapeutic class of Clobetasol/Clobetasone & Combined Preparations.

Storage Conditions

Store Ezex below 30˚C, avoiding freezing and exposure to light.
