Indications
Encilor tablets offer rapid and effective relief from symptoms associated with seasonal allergic rhinitis, perennial allergic rhinitis, and skin allergies, including chronic urticaria. They effectively alleviate symptoms such as sneezing, nasal discharge, and itching of the eyes and skin. Quick relief from nasal and ocular symptoms is achieved following oral administration. Additionally, Encilor is indicated for idiopathic urticaria and is suitable for children over 2 years for managing seasonal allergic rhinitis and allergic skin conditions.
Pharmacology
Encilor contains Loratadine, a non-sedating antihistamine that acts as a selective antagonist of peripheral H1 receptors. It is known for its long-lasting effects, providing relief without causing sedation or anticholinergic side effects. This formulation allows for once-daily administration due to its rapid onset and extended duration of action.
Dosage & Administration
For adults and children over 12 years: one tablet daily, typically taken in the morning. For children aged 2-12 years with a body weight over 30 kg: one tablet daily; for those under 30 kg: half a tablet daily. The use of Loratadine is not recommended for children under 2 years, as safety and efficacy have not been established.
Interaction
Encilor has no known hazardous interactions with other medications and does not enhance the effects of alcohol, unlike many other antihistamines. However, drugs that affect liver enzymes, such as cimetidine, erythromycin, or ketoconazole, may increase serum concentrations of Loratadine.
Contraindications
Encilor is contraindicated in individuals with known hypersensitivity to any of its components.
Side Effects
Adverse events associated with Encilor, including sedation, are comparable to those observed with placebo in clinical studies. Its impact on driving performance and cognitive functions has also been shown to be similar to that of placebo.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Due to limited data on Loratadine use during pregnancy, its use is generally not advised. It is excreted in small amounts in breast milk; thus, nursing mothers are advised against its use.
Precautions & Warnings
Patients with liver impairment or renal insufficiency should use caution when taking this medication.
Overdose Effects
Symptoms of overdose may include somnolence, tachycardia, and headache in adults, and extrapyramidal signs in children. In case of overdose, general supportive measures should be initiated. Inducing vomiting or administering activated charcoal may be considered in conscious patients shortly after ingestion.
Therapeutic Class
Non-sedating antihistamines.
