- Athlete’s Foot (Tinea Pedis)
- Ringworm (Tinea Corporis)
- Jock Itch (Tinea Cruris)
- Inflammatory Intertrigo
- Diaper Dermatitis
For onychomycoses, it is advised to use Econazole/Triamcinolone cream alongside an oral antifungal treatment. Use this medication as directed by a registered physician.
Product Overview
This cream is a potent broad-spectrum antifungal with anti-inflammatory, anti-itch, and anti-allergy properties. It combines Econazole Nitrate, an effective antifungal agent, with Triamcinolone Acetonide, which amplifies its antimicrobial activity while reducing inflammation. This combination is especially beneficial for mixed infections caused by fungi and gram-positive bacteria, such as eczema and chronic inflammation. The formula has shown notable efficacy in treating skin fold infections and other inflammatory conditions.
Econazole addresses various dermatomycoses caused by:
- Dermatophytes (e.g., Trichophyton, Epidermophyton, Microsporum)
- Yeasts (e.g., Candida, Cryptococcus, Torulopsis)
- Molds and fungi (e.g., Aspergillus, Histoplasma)
Additionally, it provides antibacterial action against gram-positive bacteria like Streptococcus pyogenes and Staphylococcus aureus and is effective for treating Trichomonas vaginalis and balanitis.
Triamcinolone Acetonide, a synthetic corticosteroid, mitigates both early and late stages of inflammation, enhancing the cream’s therapeutic effects.
Pharmacological Properties
Econazole Nitrate is minimally absorbed through the skin (less than 0.1%), with no active drug detected in the bloodstream. However, Triamcinolone Acetonide is significantly absorbed from local application areas.
Dosage & Administration
For adults, apply a thin layer to the affected skin twice daily, once in the morning and once in the evening. Avoid using occlusive dressings or applying the cream over large body areas. Treatment duration should not exceed two weeks. If the inflammation subsides, switch to a preparation containing only Econazole for continued care.
Pediatric Use: Children may be more susceptible to side effects, such as HPA axis suppression or Cushing’s syndrome. Exercise caution in pediatric patients.
Always follow the guidance of a healthcare professional.
Drug Interactions
- Econazole: Metabolized by CYP3A4/2C9. Potential interaction with oral anticoagulants (e.g., warfarin, acenocoumarol).
- Triamcinolone: May reduce plasma salicylates and increase gastrointestinal bleeding risks with NSAIDs. It may also affect blood glucose control and increase the risk of hyperkalemia with certain medications (e.g., amphotericin B, beta-blockers).
Contraindications
Do not use this cream if you have shown hypersensitivity to any of its ingredients or for specific skin conditions like:
- Viral infections (e.g., chickenpox, herpes)
- Tuberculous skin infections
- Freshly vaccinated areas
- Decubitus ulcers
Side Effects
Rarely, mild irritation, redness, or itching may occur after application. Econazole has minimal allergic potential and is well tolerated by sensitive skin. Prolonged use of corticosteroids can lead to adrenal suppression, particularly in children. Infants using occlusive dressings like diapers may be more at risk.
Use During Pregnancy & Lactation
While Econazole poses minimal risks, Triamcinolone Acetonide crosses the placenta and may cause fetal abnormalities. Avoid using large quantities or extended topical applications during pregnancy. Small amounts of the cream’s ingredients may also pass into breast milk. Therefore, lactating mothers should avoid this treatment, or discontinue breastfeeding while using the cream.
Precautions & Warnings
- For external use only.
- Discontinue use if signs of hypersensitivity or chemical irritation occur.
- Corticosteroids can be absorbed systemically, causing side effects like adrenal suppression. These risks increase with prolonged use or application over large skin areas.
- Prolonged use may also result in skin thinning, striae, or other dermatological changes.
- Exercise caution when using in children due to their increased absorption potential.
If patients experience blurred vision or other visual disturbances, an evaluation by an ophthalmologist may be necessary.
Overdose
This cream is for topical use only. Accidental ingestion may result in systemic effects. In case of ingestion, treat symptoms as they arise. If the cream enters the eyes, rinse thoroughly with water or saline and seek medical help if irritation persists.
Storage Instructions
Store in a cool, dry place (below 30°C) away from direct light. Keep out of reach of children.
