Pharmacological Action
Ebasten is a long-acting, selective H1-histamine receptor blocker that provides relief from allergy symptoms. It inhibits peripheral receptors consistently, even with prolonged use. Upon oral administration, Ebasten is rapidly absorbed and undergoes significant first-pass metabolism, converting almost entirely into carebastine, its active pharmacological form.
Dosage & Administration
Tablet:
- Adults (12 years and older): 10 mg (1 tablet) once daily.
- Children (6-12 years): 5 mg (½ tablet) once daily.
Syrup:
- Children (2-5 years): 2.5 ml once daily (up to 5 ml for severe cases like perennial allergic rhinitis).
- Children (6-12 years): 5 ml once daily (up to 10 ml for severe cases).

Drug Interactions
Taking Ebasten with ketoconazole or erythromycin may increase its plasma levels and prolong the QTc interval. Ebasten does not affect the metabolism of drugs such as theophylline, warfarin, cimetidine, diazepam, or alcohol, though the sedative effects of alcohol and diazepam may be amplified.
Contraindications
Ebasten is contraindicated in individuals who have a known allergy or hypersensitivity to Ebastine or any of its ingredients.
