Indications:
Dyvon Ointment is indicated for the topical treatment of plaque-type psoriasis vulgaris amenable to topical therapy. Dyvon Topical Suspension is indicated for the topical treatment of plaque psoriasis of the scalp and body.
Pharmacology:
Betamethasone Dipropionate, a potent topically-active corticosteroid, exhibits anti-inflammatory, antipruritic, vasoconstrictive, and immunosuppressive properties, without curing the underlying condition. Calcipotriol, derived from vitamin D, induces differentiation and suppresses proliferation of keratinocytes, normalizing epidermal growth in psoriasis.
Dosage & Administration:
Ointment: Apply once daily to affected area, limiting treated area to 30% of body surface. Use intermittently for up to one year under medical supervision. Not recommended for children. Topical Suspension: Apply once daily to affected areas for up to 8 weeks. Shake before use. Not for oral, ophthalmic, or intravaginal use.
Interaction:
Additive adverse effects when used with other steroids.
Contraindications:
Avoid use in patients with hypersensitivity to any components or known disorders of calcium metabolism. Contraindicated in severe renal or hepatic disorders.
Side Effects:
Common adverse reactions include folliculitis and burning sensation of skin.
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Use during pregnancy or lactation only if benefits outweigh risks. Exercise caution due to potential systemic absorption.
Precautions & Warnings:
Monitor for hypercalcemia and hypercalciuria. Avoid prolonged or occlusive use, especially in children. Local adverse reactions may occur, particularly with potent corticosteroids.
