Description
This sterile solution combines Dextrose and Sodium Chloride in water for injection. Each 100 ml of solution contains 5.0 gm of Dextrose Monohydrate (equivalent to Dextrose Anhydrous B.P.) and 0.9 gm of Sodium Chloride B.P. This represents a 5% Dextrose concentration in an isotonic Sodium Chloride solution, with an approximate sodium and chloride ion concentration of 150 mmol/liter.

Administration
- Inspect the infusion set and solution before use.
- Gently pull to remove the Eurocap’s protective cover.
- Handle the Eurocap carefully without touching the bottle body.
- Open the flow regulator fully and hold the giving set by the top white area, avoiding the membrane venting region.
- Insert the spike of the administration set into the Eurocap and secure the connector to the needle.
- Allow the fluid to flow gradually to the needle tip and close.
- Remove the needle’s protective cover.
- Clean the venipuncture site with an antiseptic solution, then insert the needle.
- Secure the puncture site with tape.
- Tape the wings and tubing securely.
- Start the infusion, adjusting the drip speed as needed.
Contraindications
Avoid using this solution if you have a known allergy to corn or corn products, and consult your doctor.
Side Effects
Potential reactions include febrile responses, injection site infections, venous thrombosis, phlebitis, extravasation, and hypervolemia. If any adverse reactions occur, stop the infusion, assess the patient, and take necessary therapeutic measures. Save the remaining fluid for examination if required.
