Indications
This solution is ideal for addressing combined water and sodium depletion. It delivers Dextrose as a nutrient within a Sodium Chloride medium that is isotonic with body fluids. It can be used either as a source of isotonic Sodium Chloride, Dextrose, or both. Common applications include fluid, electrolyte, and carbohydrate maintenance and replacement for patients unable to ingest fluids or nutrients orally. This includes situations such as persistent vomiting, surgical procedures, shock, or accidents.
Description
This sterile solution combines Dextrose and Sodium Chloride in water for injection. Each 100 ml of solution contains 5.0 gm of Dextrose Monohydrate (equivalent to Dextrose Anhydrous B.P.) and 0.9 gm of Sodium Chloride B.P. This represents a 5% Dextrose concentration in an isotonic Sodium Chloride solution, with an approximate sodium and chloride ion concentration of 150 mmol/liter.
