Indications
This ointment effectively relieves inflammatory manifestations associated with various dermatoses, including psoriasis, chronic atopic dermatitis, neurodermatitis, lichen planus, eczema, seborrheic dermatitis, and ichthyotic conditions.
Pharmacology
Containing Clobetasol Propionate, a high-potency corticosteroid, this ointment reduces inflammation by stabilizing leukocyte lysosomal membranes and inhibiting various cellular activities. Salicylic acid, with its keratolytic and antiseptic properties, softens and removes the stratum corneum.
Dosage & Administration
Apply a thin layer of the ointment to affected areas twice daily for adults. Avoid occlusive dressing and limit treatment to 2 consecutive weeks, not exceeding 50g/week. Not recommended for children under 12 years old.
Interaction
No reported interactions with Clobetasol Propionate. Salicylic Acid may enhance absorption of other topically applied medicines; avoid concomitant use with other topical medications on the same skin area.
Contraindications
Avoid in patients hypersensitive to Clobetasol Propionate or with primary cutaneous viral infections. Not for use in children under one year old. Salicylic Acid is contraindicated in those with salicylate hypersensitivity.
Side Effects
Prolonged use may lead to hypercortisolism. Local atrophy and sensitivity reactions are possible. Salicylic Acid may cause drying and irritation.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Cautious use during pregnancy and lactation; weigh benefits against risks. Safety during these periods not established for Salicylic Acid.
Precautions & Warnings
Exercise caution near the eyes and on extensive areas of the skin, especially in children. Monitor for signs of systemic toxicity. Avoid contact with broken or inflamed skin.
Overdose Effects
Unlikely but may lead to hypercortisolism. Monitor for symptoms of salicylate poisoning, especially after prolonged use.
