Description

Indications

Clindamycin and Tretinoin Gel is specifically formulated for the topical treatment of Acne Vulgaris.
Note: Always consult with a registered healthcare professional before using this medication.

Pharmacology

This gel combines Clindamycin phosphate, a lincosamide antibiotic, and Tretinoin, a retinoid. Clindamycin acts by binding to the 50S ribosomal subunit of susceptible bacteria, hindering the elongation of the peptide chain and effectively suppressing bacterial protein synthesis. It specifically targets and inhibits Propionibacterium acnes, reducing the prevalence of acne. Meanwhile, Tretinoin enhances the turnover of follicular epithelial cells and reduces their cohesiveness, helping to clear comedones from the skin.

Dosage & Administration

Evening Routine:
Gently wash your face using a mild soap and water, then pat dry. Apply a thin layer of the gel to the entire face using your fingertips.

Morning Routine:
After applying the gel, use a sunscreen to protect your skin. Limit facial washing to 2-3 times daily, applying sunscreen as needed.

Note: Safety and effectiveness in children under 12 years have not been established.
Reminder: Always follow your healthcare provider’s advice regarding medication use.

Interactions

  • Irritating Topicals: Be cautious when using other potentially irritating products (e.g., medicated soaps, abrasive cleansers, or products high in alcohol) alongside this gel.
  • Erythromycin: The effectiveness of both Clindamycin and Erythromycin can be diminished when used together; therefore, they should not be administered concurrently.
  • Neuromuscular Medications: Concurrent use may enhance the effects of neuromuscular drugs, so caution is advised.

Contraindications

This gel should not be used by individuals who are hypersensitive to Clindamycin, Tretinoin, or any other ingredients in the formulation.

Side Effects

Common side effects include erythema, scaling, nasopharyngitis, dry skin, cough, sinusitis, and diarrhea.

Pregnancy & Lactation

It remains unclear whether Clindamycin or Tretinoin is excreted in breast milk. Special caution is advised when applying this gel to nursing mothers.

Precautions & Warnings

Avoid applying Clindamycin and Tretinoin to sensitive areas such as the eyes, nose, ears, lips, or on cuts and burns. After application, protect the skin from direct sunlight exposure.
