Indications
Caripa is recommended for:
- Thrombocytopenia (low platelet count) related to Dengue fever.
- Thrombocytopenia (low platelet count) caused by chemotherapy.
Caripa also helps to enhance the taste of food, aid digestion, alleviate constipation, reduce stomach and colon inflammation, maintain liver health, boost immunity, clear acne, promote healthy, beautiful skin, and relieve menstrual pain.
Pharmacology
Carica papaya, part of the Caricaceae plant family, is a globally significant fruit crop. Numerous scientific studies have examined the benefits of various parts of the papaya plant, including its fruits, seeds, leaves, rind, shoots, roots, and latex. The leaf is considered non-toxic, with a lethal dose greater than 15 g/kg of body weight.
Preclinical studies in mice have shown that Carica papaya powder effectively increases platelet count. Recent in vitro research demonstrated that Carica papaya leaf extract significantly inhibits hemolysis, likely due to its membrane-stabilizing properties.

Interaction
Caripa has been found to increase the bioavailability of amiodarone, so the dosage should be adjusted accordingly. In vitro studies have shown that Carica papaya enhances the effects of various antibiotics, including penicillin G, ampicillin, amoxyclav, cephalothin, polymyxin B, rifampicin, amikacin, nalidixic acid, gentamycin, chloramphenicol, and ofloxacin. The extract of Carica papaya, when combined with antimicrobial agents, shows synergistic properties against pathogenic organisms.
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity
- Pregnancy
- Males with prostate dysfunction (such as BPH or prostate cancer) should avoid Carica papaya due to increased iron absorption, which may lead to oxidative stress and a higher risk of prostate cancer.
Side Effects
No known health hazards or side effects when administered at the recommended therapeutic dosages.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Not recommended during pregnancy and lactation.

Use with caution in individuals with bleeding disorders or those taking blood-thinning medications such as aspirin or warfarin. Co-administration with oral hypoglycemic agents may result in very low blood glucose levels, so regular monitoring is essential to avoid hypoglycemia.
