Indications
Ciclopirox Olamine Shampoo is recommended for addressing seborrheic dermatitis, dandruff, and inflammation of the scalp.
Use as directed by a registered healthcare professional.
Pharmacology
Ciclopirox Olamine is a synthetic antifungal agent with broad-spectrum efficacy, effectively targeting pathogenic dermatophytes, yeasts, and Malassezia furfur. It demonstrates fungicidal properties in vitro against several isolates, including Trichophyton rubrum, Trichophyton mentagrophytes, Epidermophyton floccosum, Microsporum canis, and Candida albicans. The primary mode of action for Ciclopirox Olamine has been extensively studied in Candida albicans, where it appears to inhibit fungal cell growth or induce cell death by depleting essential substrates and ions in vitro, likely by blocking their absorption from the environment. In addition to its antifungal capabilities, Ciclopirox exhibits antibacterial activity against a range of both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. Its anti-inflammatory properties have been confirmed in human polymorphonuclear cells, where it reduces the synthesis of prostaglandins and leukotrienes, and may inhibit the activity of 5-lipoxygenase and cyclooxygenase.
Dosage & Administration
To use, wet the hair and apply approximately 1 teaspoon (5 ml) of Ciclopirox Olamine Shampoo directly onto the scalp. For longer hair, up to 2 teaspoons (10 ml) can be used. Lather the shampoo and leave it on the hair and scalp for 3 minutes; a timer can assist with this. Avoid contact with eyes. For optimal results, apply twice a week for 4 weeks, ensuring at least 3 days between each application.
