Pharmacology
Dextromethorphan Hydrobromide acts centrally on the cough center in the medulla to suppress coughing. It is structurally related to morphine but lacks analgesic properties and has minimal sedative effects. Addiction is not observed even with prolonged use of high doses. The syrup is rapidly absorbed, typically taking effect within 15-30 minutes post-administration, and its effects last approximately 3-6 hours. Metabolism primarily occurs in the liver, with excretion primarily through urine.
