Indications

Billi is used to alleviate symptoms of:

• Allergic Rhinitis: Effective for both seasonal and perennial allergic rhino conjunctivitis.
• Urticaria: Provides relief from hives and related symptoms.
• Hay Fever: Eases sneezing, itchy, runny or blocked nose, and red, watery eyes.

Pharmacology

Bilastine is a powerful, non-sedating histamine antagonist with a high selectivity for the H1 receptor—three times more selective than Cetirizine and five times more than Fexofenadine. It maintains a strong safety profile and does not interact with other receptor types, such as muscarinic, serotonergic, dopaminergic, or noradrenergic. Unlike many other medications, Bilastine is not metabolized but is excreted through feces (66.35%) and urine (28.31%).

Dosage & Administration

• Adults & Adolescents (12+ years): Take one 20 mg tablet daily on an empty stomach for relief from allergic rhinitis, urticaria, and allergic rhinoconjunctivitis. Do not exceed the recommended dose.
• Children (6 to 11 years): Use one 10 mg mouth-dissolving tablet daily. The tablet can be placed directly in the mouth or dissolved in a teaspoon of water.
• Children (2 to 5 years): Administer 4 ml once daily.

Always follow the dosage instructions provided by your healthcare provider.

Interactions

• Drug Interactions: Concomitant use with ketoconazole, erythromycin, cyclosporine, or diltiazem may increase Bilastine levels without affecting safety. Combining Bilastine with alcohol does not impair psychomotor performance. It also does not enhance the sedative effects of lorazepam.

Contraindications

• Hypersensitivity: Avoid use in patients with known allergies to Bilastine or any of its excipients.

Side Effects

• Common Reactions: Headache, dizziness, drowsiness, and fatigue are reported at similar rates to placebo.

Pregnancy & Lactation

• Pregnancy: Limited data is available, so Bilastine should be avoided during pregnancy unless absolutely necessary.
• Lactation: The impact on breastfeeding has not been studied; weigh the benefits of treatment against the risks to the infant.

Precautions & Warnings

• Driving & Machinery: Generally does not affect driving; however, rare drowsiness may occur. Elderly patients show similar efficacy and safety as younger patients. No dosage adjustment is needed for renal impairment, and liver function changes are unlikely to impact Bilastine’s effectiveness.

Use in Special Populations

• Children Under 2 Years: Safety and efficacy are not established. Avoid use in this age group.

Overdose Effects

• High Doses: Excessive doses (10-11 times the recommended dose) may cause dizziness, headache, and nausea. No serious adverse effects or significant QTc prolongation have been reported.
