Pharmacology
Betamethasone Valerate BP is a synthetic corticosteroid with glucocorticoid properties. As a derivative of prednisolone, it also exhibits mild mineralocorticoid activity. Thanks to its anti-inflammatory, antipruritic, and vasoconstrictive effects, it is particularly effective for skin applications. The absorption rate of the medication increases with skin inflammation or disease, and occlusive dressings can significantly enhance its transdermal absorption.
Dosage & Administration
Apply a small amount to the affected area two to three times daily until symptoms improve, then reduce to twice daily or less. The typical maximum treatment duration is three weeks.
Note: Always follow the advice of a registered healthcare professional when using this medication.

Precautions & Warnings
While Betaderm Cream/Ointment is generally well tolerated, discontinue use if hypersensitivity occurs. Avoid prolonged continuous topical treatment, especially in children, as it may lead to adrenal suppression. Significant systemic absorption can happen when large areas are treated, especially with occlusive dressings. Prolonged treatment may cause atrophic changes on the face and other body parts. Take care when applying near the eyelids to prevent potential glaucoma. If an infection worsens, cease topical corticosteroid therapy immediately.
