Indications
Azecol is designed for individuals experiencing age-related eye disease. This advanced antioxidant supplement offers essential nutritional support for eye health, incorporating key vitamins, minerals, and Lutein.
Composition
Each capsule contains:
- Vitamin C: 60 mg
- Vitamin E: 30 mg
- Lutein (Pharmaceutical Grade): 6 mg
- Copper (as Cupric Oxide, Pharmaceutical Grade): 2 mg
- Zinc (as Zinc Oxide, BP): 15 mg
Pharmacology
Vitamin C is found in higher concentrations in the lens than in the bloodstream. Long-term supplementation (over 10 years) is linked to a decreased risk of cataracts, primarily through its ability to scavenge harmful free radicals.
Research indicates that elevated serum levels of Vitamin E may also correlate with a lower risk of cataracts, although its exact mechanism remains unclear. Like Vitamin C, it plays a vital role in neutralizing free radicals.
Lutein, a carotenoid predominantly located in the macula, is shown through clinical and animal studies to potentially safeguard the macula against oxidative and light-induced damage. A significant study suggests that higher dietary intake of Lutein is associated with a reduced risk of Age-Related Macular Degeneration (AMD).
Zinc is an essential trace element involved in various enzymatic systems. Mild deficiency may lead to distorted taste and smell, as well as delayed wound healing, while severe deficiency can result in skin lesions, alopecia, diarrhea, and increased infection susceptibility.
Copper is crucial for growth, skeletal health, and the development of the nervous system. As a component of several enzymes, it participates in numerous metabolic processes.
